It states that there are no rare legion solves from dig sites, and that they can only be completed through world quests, but what about the epic solves? And furthermore, does it function on a random basis, or can you choose the solve?
Legion Archaeology Rare solves WILL NOT be obtained from surveying, but rather will be part of an ongoing story questline. Every 2 weeks a quest will appear from the Archaeology trainer ( Dariness the Learned ), granting a Rare project at its completion.

Archaeology rares (mount, toys, etc.) only come from this quest and not from digging. Pristine artifacts were introduced with Mists. Aug 10, 2015 · Archaeology in Legion I have mixed feelings about Archaeology. It’s okay, but it is a far greater timesink than it should be given what it rewards, and was only made worse in MoP and WoD.
Now it’s a fucking quest with a guaranteed outcome, that you accomplish in one zone– not even a single type of digsite, just a single zone for an entire two weeks–, with such a ridiculously long rotation that you can’t even choose what you want to dig for.
Nov 20, 2017 · This would fix only being able to do archaeology in one zone for 2 weeks straight (so tired of stormheim), but it wouldn’t fix the motivation to dig when you don’t have a quest. To fix the motivation to keep digging, even without a quest, maybe if there was a way to dig up quest items that lead you to other rare items that aren’t linked to …
